Upper Barremian−lower Aptian charophyte biostratigraphy from Arrifes section (Algarve Basin, Southern Portugal): correlation with dinoflagellate cyst biostratigraphy

چکیده

The Arrifes section (Algarve Basin, Southern Portugal) has been studied from the viewpoint of charophyte biostratigraphy. previous sedimentological studies in this showed that it is built interbedding continental and marine facies contain both palynomorphs (pollen, spores, dinoflagellates), providing an excellent sedimentary context to perform direct correlations between domains. In present work, identified biozones have correlated with dinoflagellate previously recognized section, being first time these two biochronologies can be directly correlated. From biostratigraphy viewpoint, assemblages are distinguished. older one found 65 135 m stratigraphic composed species Echinochara lazarii, Atopochara trivolvis var. triquetra, A. trivolvis, Clavator grovesii jiuquanensis, harrisii harrisii, C. reyi, zavialensis. This assemblage belongs upper Barremian–lower Aptian jiuquanensis Eurasian biozone also Ascidiella cruciata-Pseudoglobator paucibracteatus European described beds cyst Subtilisphaera scabrata (lower lowermost Barremian) Odontochitina operculata (from Barremian upwards). younger 155 corrugatus, corrugatus biozone, assigned (Clavator lusitanicus biozone). However, Aptian). correlation base O. operculata, indicates lower Aptian, which slightly than was suggested, extended until middle Albian.

Conodonts and Biostratigraphy of Upper Ordovician Strata along a Shelf to Basin Transect in Central Nevada

Conodonts representing 38 species of 26 genera have been identified in samples from Upper Ordovician rocks at three central Nevada localities. Ranges of these species and associated graptolites are used graphically to determine correlation of the strata considered with an evolving composite standard that includes information from Ordovician strata at more than 100 localities in North America. R...

Geochronology and Mammalian Biostratigraphy of Middle and Upper Paleocene Continental Strata, Bighorn Basin, Wyoming

The Bighorn Basin of northwestern Wyoming preserves one of the most complete records of middle Paleocene to lower Eocene continental biota. The geochronology of this important interval depends partly on numerical calibration of the geomagnetic polarity time scale (GPTS), but the middle and late Paleocene parts of the GPTS have been poorly constrained radioisotopically. A new volcanic ash from t...

Marine macrostomorpha (platyhelminthes, rhabditophora) from the algarve (southern portugal).

Ten species of Macrostomorpha were found in marine environments of the Algarve (Portugal). Six of them were found in the Ria Formosa, a vast intertidal euryhaline lagoon system that dominates the most Eastern coast of the Algarve: two unidentified species of Microstomum Schmidt, 1848, Macrostomum cf. rubrocinctum Ax, 1951 and two unidentified species of Macrostomum Schmidt, 1848, Paromalostomum...

Biostratigraphy of the Gurpi Formation in Sepidan section, Interior Fars basin based on planktonic foraminifera

In this study biostratigraphy of the Upper Cretaceous deposits (Gurpi Formation) in Sepidan section located in the Interior Fars basin (SW Iran) was studied. The Gurpi Formation in this section consists of 360 m lime shale, argillaceous limestone and shale laid continuously on the Ilam Formation and with a paraconformity under the Pabdeh Formation. Nine genera and 27 species of planktonic foram...

Quantitative Biostratigraphy—achieving Finer Resolution in Global Correlation

The fossil record preserves a wide range of events that might be used to build timescales and correlate strata from place to place. The events include the originations and extinctions of species, the occurrence of distinctive faunal assemblages, magnetic field reversals, changes in ocean chemistry, and volcanic ash falls. The fundamental task is to determine the global sequence of all these eve...
